The DIY Route
Self-sourcing gives you the ultimate control over every component. You can choose your own colors, brands, and suppliers. However, be prepared for longer lead times and potentially higher shipping costs from multiple vendors.
Bill of Materials (BOM)
You can view the full BOM here: Google Sheets BOM
Certain components are critical to source correctly. The BOM includes links to trustworthy suppliers verified at the time of writing. Following our Kickstarter launch, we will also offer individual components in our shop, allowing you to source exactly what you need.
Table of parts planned to be offered in our shop after the Kickstarter launch:
| Part | Description |
|---|---|
| Electronics Kit | Complete set of electronics and wiring |
| Air Filtration Kit | HEPA and Carbon filtration components |
| Frame Kit | Pre-cut 2020 and 2020R extrusions |
| Acrylic Kit | CNC-cut 3mm PMMA panels |
| Fasteners Kit | All screws, nuts, and inserts |
| Load Cell Upgrade | High-precision 3kg or 5kg load cells |
| Screen Upgrade | Integrated touch display |
| PCB Kit | Custom Clura control boards |
| Smoke Sensors | Safety monitoring sensors |

| Environmental Sensors | Temperature and humidity monitoring |
Extrusions Guide
We use standard 2020 and 2020R extrusions.
- Length Tolerance: +/- 0.5mm
- Anodization: Black is recommended for the standard Aesthetic.
Load Cells Guide
We use standard Straight Bar Load Cells (3kg or 5kg).
- Dimensions: See the cad model on github.
- Wiring: Wire colors vary by manufacturer. Always verify the pinout (E+, E-, S+, S-) rather than relying on standard colors.
It’s critical to source load cells from high quality suppliers with shielded wiring to avoid interferences.
Panels Guide
The enclosure is designed for 3mm and 4mm Acrylic (PMMA) panels.
- Thickness: 3mm (+/- 0.3mm tolerance) or 4mm (+/- 0.3mm tolerance).
- Material: Cast Acrylic is recommended for better optical clarity and cutting properties. Polycarbonate is an option for higher temp builds but scratches easily.
PCBs Guide
All Clura electronics are open source.
- Production: Gerbers are provided in the repository. Standard 1.6mm FR4.
- Assembly: We strongly recommend ordering with SMT Assembly services (like JLCPCB or PCBWay) as hand-soldering the fine-pitch components can be difficult.
- Flashing: We provide a detailed flashing guide and all source code is available on github. You will need an ST-LINK to flash these boards.
It probably does not make sense to self source these components as batch production makes them much cheaper. You can purchase these from us at affordable prices.
